    Hello and Welcome!
I want to tell you how excited I am about teaching this course. Art History is a class that reaches across the curriculum and affects you all for the rest of your life in every aspect whether you realize it or not. From learning about the types of art, fine art versus applied art, to all of the art periods and their effect on society, you will come away with a deeper understanding of your culture as well as other cultures throughout the world.
You will be able to use what you learned in this course to make informed decisions about what color to paint your house, how art has made an impact on society and how art is reflected within a society.
All art is made for a reason- whether that reason is purely for beauty or to serve a purpose.
So, in 20 years, when you are standing in front of the David statue in Florence, you will know why Michelangelo created it, the reason behind it and why it is such a coveted work of art for the Italian people.
Now, some of you might say, "hey, why do I need to learn about this history of art if I will never become an artist?" Well, I can tell you that you don't have to be an artist to appreciate art. This course is designed with you in mind. We will be studying different art periods and do a work of art based on that time period. So, if you consider yourself an artist, Great! If not, keep in mind that you will have a deeper appreciation of that art period. You don't have to be an artist to love art.
