About Mrs. NowmosChristine Nowmos is a cum laude graduate of Grove City College with a Bachelor of Music degree in music education. She received her Masters of Music degree in music education from West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 2006. Mrs. Nowmos has New Jersey state teaching certification for K-12 vocal and instrumental music and holds certification in the Kodály approach of music education from West Chester University and Level 1 Early Childhood Music and Elementary General Music certifications in Music Learning Theory through the Gordon Institute of Music Learning. She is a member of The National Association for Music Education (NAfME, formerly MENC), the New Jersey Music Educators Association, the Gordon Institute of Music Learning, and the New Jersey Education Association. Mrs. Nowmos was the recipient of a New Jersey Governor's Teaching Scholarship and was the conductor for the South Jersey Choral Directors' Association Elementary Chorus Festival in March 2007. In addition, Mrs. Nowmos has published a research article on informance music programs in the professional journal General Music Today and has been interviewed for articles in the NAfME publication Teaching Music.
Mrs. Nowmos teaches general/vocal music to grades 1 through 5 at the Mary S. Shoemaker School and has been director of the Shoemaker general/vocal music program since 1999. She leads the Shoemaker 3rd and 4th/5th Grade Choruses, the Select Chorus, and the 3rd-5th Grade Percussion Ensemble. She has also previously taught Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten music in the Woodstown-Pilesgrove School District. Prior to teaching at the Shoemaker School, Mrs. Nowmos taught elementary general/vocal music in Hamilton Twp. (Atlantic Co., NJ) Public Schools and instrumental music in several South Jersey parochial and private schools.
Mrs. Nowmos is an experienced performer on several instruments, including piano, flute, voice, euphonium, and trombone. She is a professional piano accompanist and is available as a classical or jazz/contemporary pianist, flutist, or vocalist for weddings and other functions in the NJ/DE/Phila. region.
Mrs. Nowmos lives in Woodstown with her husband, Jeff, her son, George, and her Foxhoud mix, Heidi. Mr. Nowmos is a professional guitarist and pianist and is a guitar and piano teacher in the Woodstown area. Mr. and Mrs. Nowmos often perform together as a duo and have provided music for many weddings throughout New Jersey and the Philadelphia/Wilimington metro areas (visit their wedding music website to hear samples of their playing and singing). Mrs. Nowmos has also practiced yoga for over 15 years, holds a 200 hour yoga teacher certification and ChildLight Yoga children's yoga certifications, and has directed the Kids' Yoga Club in past years at the Shoemaker School. In addition to music and yoga, Mrs. Nowmos enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, reading, Scrabble, and spending time with her family!
