• Welcome to Mr. O'Brien's Web Page

This is my 6th year teaching at Woodstown High School.  I teach Algebra II, Honors Algerba II and Exploring Engineering.  Before switching to a career in teaching I worked as a Civil Engineer.  This is also my 4th year as the head coach of the Girls Cross Country team.  This year the Math department will be continuing the use of Standards Based Grading, where student's assignments and assessments will be graded based on 5 categories instead of one percentage grade.  Each category will be graded using points and the students overall grade will be an average of their total points scored, the categories will not be weighted this year instead they will be represented by the number of points assessed in each category.

    The categories assessed are:

    Process
    Application
    Fluency
    21st Century Skills

Each student will still receive one percentage grade and a letter grade for the marking period, only now in Powerschool each assignment or assessment will be listed anywhere from 2 to 4 times with a separate grade for each category being measured in that assessment.  Feel free to reach out to me through email at o'brien.j@woodstown.org with any questions about the grading policy or my class.
